A delegation from C40 African Cities for Clean Air, led by the Director, of Climate Change, Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Bankole Micheal Omoniyi, visited the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) today.

The C40 initiative aims to improve air quality management across African cities, through advanced data collection, comprehensive policy development, and effective implementation.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by the General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi noted the importance of the Air Quality Monitoring Station, which he noted is pivotal in data collection and public information dissemination. LASEPA releases air quality data every Monday on the agency’s social media platforms, offering various communities valuable insights into the air quality in their neighborhood. This effort helps in the identification and mitigation of pollution sources across the State.
According to him, 23 Air Quality Monitoring Stations have been installed in the State, with plans for 18 additional installations

Dr. Ajayi highlighted that the data collected from these efforts is crucial for addressing pollution from industrial and commercial activities, particularly those affecting air quality through sectors such as food processing.

He expressed gratitude for the collaboration with C40, emphasizing the value of sharing best practices and learning from each other.

During the visit, the delegation toured LASEPA’s ISO-certified Environmental Laboratory, Air Quality Monitoring Station, and Effluent Treatment Plant for knowledge sharing and exchange of ideas.
