The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), in conjunction with the Lagos State University Medical Students Association (LASUMSA), has taken its advocacy program on environmental sustainability and sensitization program to students of Tertiary institutions in the State. The team was at the Lagos State University College of Medicine, LASUCOM yesterday for sensitization and formal inauguration of the Green Hub initiative.
The program, themed “The Role of Youths in Sustainable Environmental Practices,” seeks to empower students to actively engage as stewards of the environment.
The General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, who was represented by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Environmental Protection Matters, Mrs. Adebowale Tolulope highlighted the urgency of environmental sustainability, stressing the transition from a linear to a circular economy to preserve natural resources and reduce pollution. The event underscored the need for recycling, reuse, energy efficiency, water conservation, and sustainable transportation as critical components of environmental stewardship.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Tertiary Institutions, Mr Adewunmi Adeola emphasized the role of educational institutions in fostering environmental consciousness through curriculum integration and community engagement.
Also, his counterpart SSA to the Governor on Students’ Union Affairs, Mr.Kappo Samuel expressed gratitude to LASEPA for championing environmental sustainability and urged greater youth involvement in environmental clean-up and advocacy efforts.
A notable highlight of the event was the inauguration of the LASUCOM Green Hub Ambassadors by Dr Bukola Olisa, the Head of Partnerships, Grants Management and Innovation Department at LASEPA and also there was a tree planting exercise.
Other dignitaries include LASUCOM’s Dean of Students Affairs, Mrs. Bola Lawal, President of the Green Club, LASUCOM, Miss Tolulope Abioje, President, of Lagos State University Medical Students Association, ( LASUMSA) Mr Lana Promise.
