The Clean Air Forum Lagos 2024 kicked off yesterday at Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, with the General Manager of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, in attendance. The five-day event, organized by AirQo in partnership with LASEPA, is expected to attract over 300 air quality stakeholders from 40 cities in 40 countries to address the pressing issue of air pollution in Africa.

Dr. Ajayi in his keynote address, highlighted LASEPA’s efforts to tackle air pollution in Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city and Africa’s 4th economy. He emphasized the importance of partnerships in addressing environmental challenges and LASEPA’s commitment to working with local and international Organizations to create a cleaner and healthier environment.

Dr. Ajayi also participated as a panelist in a session focussing on effective strategies for improving air quality, sharing his expertise and experiences in addressing air pollution in Lagos.

Later in the day, Dr. Ajayi, along with the organisers paid a courtesy of visit to the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr.Tokunbo Wahab in his office to brief him about various activities lined up for a week-long Clean Air Forum event.

Mr. Tokunbo Wahab expressed his concern about the Air Quality and Land Pollution in Africa, stating, “We have things to solve and address, we must admit it, to put it in the front burner, a lot of things are wrong. The issue of air quality is a major concern, and we need to come together to find lasting solutions”.

The organizers thanked the commissioner for having them and appreciated the partnership with the Lagos State Government through LASEPA in organizing the Clean Air Forum Lagos 2024.

The Clean Air Forum aims to foster knowledge sharing, collaborations, and partnerships for clean air actions in African cities. The day one event features plenary sessions on evidence-informed policy development, health impacts, and knowledge-sharing sessions to advance innovative solutions to the problem of air pollution in the continent.
