Officials from the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) Lagos Liaison Office, led by Dr. Otitologbon Stephen, Director of the Lagos Office, accompanied by Dr. Seriki Omotayo, Technical Partner (EDM), today, paid a visit to LASEPA HQ, Alausa, Ikeja.
The primary aim of the visit was to initiate discussions on the implementation of the NESREA Lagos Pilot project on the Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Industrial Emission Scheme (I.E.M.S).
Additionally, the meeting sought to bolster existing partnerships and collaborations between the two agencies, underscoring the importance of joint efforts in addressing environmental concerns within Lagos.
The GM LASEPA, Dr Babatunde Ajayi who received the delegation emphasized the significance of collaboration in environmental regulation and enforcement.
Dr. Ajayi highlighted the pivotal role of both federal and state agencies in ensuring environmental sustainability, stressing the need for concerted efforts to achieve common goals.
Drawing attention to the operational capabilities of LASEPA, Dr. Ajayi emphasized the agency’s extensive reach and robust infrastructure, essential for effective environmental monitoring and enforcement across Lagos State.
While underscoring the value of collaboration, Ajayi emphasized the complementary strengths of Federal and State agencies in tackling environmental challenges.
NESREA Technical Partner Dr. Seriki Omotayo, who shed more light on the objectives of the Industrial Emission Scheme (I.E.M.S), explained that it aims at establishing a comprehensive database of active facilities in Lagos State.
He reiterated NESREA’s commitment to collaborating closely with LASEPA in achieving these objectives, highlighting the importance of joint efforts in ensuring environmental sustainability and regulatory compliance.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both NESREA and LASEPA expressing their commitments to further discussions and potential collaboration in implementing the NESREA Lagos Pilot project, towards achieving a cleaner environment.
