During his welcome address, Dr. Ajayi underscored the transformative potential of waste-to-wealth solutions, advocating fervently for the conversion of waste into invaluable resources such as energy and reusable materials. He emphasized the imperative of creating tangible value from waste and urged for heightened innovation and technological advancements to bolster sustainable practices. Dr. Ajayi also highlighted the critical importance of establishing robust frameworks and policies to propel advancements in waste management.
Expressing enthusiasm for local capacity development and technological innovation, Dr. Ajayi emphasized the need to manage waste effectively and encouraged the involvement of organizations like UNIDO, UNDP, Sterling Bank, and others in waste management for environmental sustainability.
He commended the efforts of the Ogun State government represented by its Commissioner for the Environment, Ola Oresanya, and stressed the need for proper frameworks between states in Nigeria for effective waste management practices and environmental sustainability.
The dialogue session brought together representatives from Ogun, Nassarawa, and Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), alongside officials from Extended Producers Responsibility Organisation of Nigeria (EPRON), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Waste Management Society of Nigeria (WAMASON), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP),Food Beverages Recycling Alliance (FBRA), Lafarge Geocycle, and various stakeholders from international and private sectors, including environmentalists.
