The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), in partnership with the Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) and Iranti Press, today convened a high-level stakeholders’ meeting at the Five Cowries Terminal to finalize key modalities for the successful implementation of the upcoming Library on the Lagoon project.

The meeting focused on critical operational and safety considerations, including comprehensive safety and security measures, the provision and proper use of life jackets, and other essential logistics required to ensure a safe and impactful experience for all participants.

Library on the Lagoon is a temporary, floating, and site-responsive installation designed to activate public engagement along Lagos waterways. Conceived as both a program and exhibition by Iranti Press, the initiative reimagines the Lagos Lagoon as a space for civic reflection, environmental awareness, and creative expression.

Unlike the traditional exhibitions, the project adopts a participatory approach where writing, listening, and environmental action occur simultaneously.

The organisers invite participants to reflect on the lagoon’s past, present, and future, while physically connecting them to a trash-collection wheel operating within the water thereby reinforcing the importance of environmental stewardship.

The one-week project is scheduled to run from Sunday, April 26 to Saturday, May 2, 2026, and is expected to attract a diverse audience of residents, commuters, creative artists, environmental advocates, and policymakers.

Key attendees at the meeting included:
Director, Partnership, Grants Management and Innovations, LASEPA, Mrs.Shonibare Olabisi,
Executive Assistant to the Governor on Environmental Protection Matters (LASEPA), Ms Tolulope Adebowale, LASEPA’s Director of Public Affairs, Adesoye Oyelami
