Nile University of Nigeria serves as the anchor institution for the Abuja Urban Lab, comprising representatives from the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), Association of Women Town Planners in Nigeria (AWTPN), and the Youth Group Nile Climate Initiative.
The primary objective of the visit was to forge collaborative ties and facilitate knowledge exchange in waste governance initiatives between LASEPA and Nile University of Nigeria.
During the productive meeting, the GM LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, extended a warm welcome to the delegation and provided insights into the myriad of initiatives spearheaded by LASEPA. He shed light on LASEPA’s notable achievements, including the ISO certified Environmental Laboratory, exemplary practices in waste recycling, management of e-waste and plastics, sustainable endeavors, and stringent regulations governing emissions emanating from industries.
Dr. Ajayi underscored the critical role of academic research in enhancing environmental protection efforts and stressed the importance of enforcing existing laws and regulations. He elaborated on LASEPA’s proactive measures, including the monitoring of tank farms to prevent water body pollution, robust enforcement strategies against noise pollution, and innovative approaches to recycling waste oil.
The GM expresses enthusiasm about the prospect of collaboration with Nile University of Nigeria and other stakeholders through the Abuja Urban Lab.
The visit concluded on a high note, with both parties expressing optimism regarding the potential outcomes of their collaboration. They reiterated their shared dedication to environmental stewardship and pledged to work hand in hand towards a cleaner and greener future.
