The Representatives of the UNILAG Air Quality Monitoring Research Group (AQmrg), led by Prof. Rose Alani, visited LASEPA HQ, Alausa, Ikeja.
The delegation which included Mr Deo Okure from Makerere University, Uganda was received by the GM LASEPA; Dr. Babatunde Ajayi.
The purpose of the visit was to seek LASEPA’s support and collaboration for the proposed CLEAN-AIR Forum scheduled to take place tentatively in July 2024. Recognizing the agency’s role as a major partner and stakeholder in environmental initiatives, the AQmrg delegation highlighted the importance of LASEPA’s involvement in ensuring the success of the proposed forum.
The CLEAN-AIR forum aims to address air quality challenges and promote environmental sustainability in Africa. The workshop will serve as a platform for knowledge sharing among policymakers, stakeholders, academia, and other key players with mandates to tackle issues around poor air quality
During the meeting, various aspects of the workshop were discussed, including overall coordination efforts, policy forums, willingness to engage in collaborative endeavours, and strategies for addressing air quality challenges.
Dr. Ajayi emphasized the importance of gathering qualitative data, vehicular emissions monitoring, surveillance, and data sharing in addressing air quality issues. He also highlighted ongoing efforts in Lagos State to reduce the carbon footprint, underscoring the agency’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
