Mrs Olabisi Shonibare (Nee Cole), Head Pollution Control Department, Lagos State Environmental Protection, Was Born In Lagos, an Indigene of Lagos Island in Lagos State.


Education

She had her primary education at Maryland Convent Private School, Maryland Lagos and her Secondary School education at Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School, Maryland, Lagos. She therefore Proceeded to the University Of Ibadan,Oyo State for her First degree Programme in Chemistry, Bsc (Hons),and Later Obtained her Masters Degree in Environmental Management (MEM) At The Prestigious University of Lagos (UNILAG) Akoka, Lagos, she recently got Certified as an Accredited Mediator at the Lagos Multi-door Court Igbosere, Lagos (2017)(Alternative Dispute Resolution)because of her passion for dispute settlement, especially In environment matters, Which is what she does presently in her current posting.

Professional Career

Her career commenced when she had her one year compulsory National Youth Service Corp(NYSC)at Nestle Foods Nig Plc, Agbara Factory, where she worked in the Quality Control Laboratory of the factory as a Chemical analyst. The experience she gathered got her a full time employment at CPL industries Limited, ilupeju Lagos, formerly known as continental pharmaceuticals Limited (manufacturers of cosmetics & pharmaceutical products) as the research and product development chemist (1992-1998). In the course of her work period at CPL industries, she developed various brands of over the counter products (OTC) for the company. She voluntarily resigned her appointment in 1998 to afford her the opportunity of raising her children and in the year 2000, she returned to active service and joined the Lagos state civil service. She has worked as a scientific officer in various capacities at the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) with the mandate of ensuring a pollution free environment in Lagos State. She started off at the pollution control department of the agency and later on the laboratory services department where she brought her expertise in qualitative analysis to the fore. She worked in the waste water laboratory, the potable water laboratory, heavy metal/sensitive equipment laboratory, toxicology laboratory and later as the head of the land/soil laboratory of that department, where she was instrumental to the formulation of the physic-chemical parameters of the Analyses carried out on soil, sludge and other solid samples analyzed in the laboratory. She later became a laboratory manager and coordinated the activities of the laboratory with the aim of analyzing results/data generated from the 7nos .laboratories, for the purpose of regulating the environment and policy formulation. Thereafter she was transferred to the project and special duties unit of the agency where tank farms in Lagos state are regulated. Having gone through the rudiment of environmental management, she rose to become the head of pollution control department of the agency in 2014, attending to public complaints on Land, Air and Water Pollution in Lagos State, with the purpose of proffering the best possible abatement measures. She introduced the annual stakeholders’ summit on ’’noiseless Lagos’’ which holds every May with the aim of creating awareness on noise pollution and its impact on human health. She attended various workshops, seminar and study Tour of the Environment, both local and international, some of which include; the world bank project on the sound management and disposal of polychlorinated biphenyls(PCBs)at Preston and Ellesmere port United Kingdom and Zambia (2015),the 1st Ramphal Institute International conference on megacities and Air Pollution, London(2018).she has represented the agency and Lagos state at various inter-governmental committees, both at the State and Federal level. She is a member of the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), Institute of Chartered Chemist of Nigeria (ICCON), Science Association of Nigeria (SAN) and in view is the institute of public analyst of Nigeria (IPAN) and the waste management society of Nigeria (WAMASON), She is married with children.
